What’s a Spoileron?

I get a lot of great questions through my twitter account. @TimboCrew asked the following: “What’s a Spoileron?”

That’s a great question! Spoilerons are simply spoilers that work like ailerons. A spoiler raises on the down-going wing and spoils airflow, reducing lift. That wing then drops, allowing the airplane to roll. Although spoilerons can replace ailerons, they usually work in tandem with ailerons and are typically found on fast jets. Typically, both devices are operated at low speeds, while only one surface is used at higher speeds.

Space Shuttle Enterprise in the Hudson River

Space Shuttle Enterprise made her final voyage to the Intrepid Air, Sea & Space Museum by barge this morning. I grabbed my camera and spent the morning Space Shuttle spotting on the Esplanade in Battery Park City, right next to the yacht club where the Clipper Round the World race teams are docked.

Space Shuttle Enterprise on a Barge

The Space Shuttle Enterprise will make it’s final voyage to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City tomorrow morning (June 6) by barge.

It’s not everyday that New Yorkers can see one of NASA’s Space Shuttle’s floating down the Hudson River. Enterprise is scheduled to depart Port Elizabeth in New Jersey at 10:15AM, passing by New York City landmarks on it’s voyage.

Space Shuttle Enterprise to Make New York City Flyover – UPDATE

In what will be a once-in-a-lifetime event, the Space Shuttle Enterprise will make a low-altitude flyover of New York City atop the Boeing 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft. The April 23rd flyover has been cancelled due to unfavorable weather and is being rescheduled by NASA. The flight will take place along the Hudson River on New York’s West Side.

The Space Shuttle Enterprise is being flown to New York’s JFK airport from it’s previous home in Washington D.C. Enterprise and will be put on display at the Intrepid Air and Space Museum in Manhattan.

According to the Intrepid Air and Space Museum, the New York City Space Shuttle flyover has been rescheduled for April 25 after 10:00am.

Due to weather, the Space Shuttle flyover has been cancelled and rescheduled again. Expect to see the Space Shuttle and 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft make a pass down the Hudson on April 27 at 10:00am.
